The Jacquard mechanism (using hand punched cards) was only invented around 1804 and prior to that, draw looms were used, though their setups differed geographically. As opposed to hand punched cards that controlled pattern in jacquard looms, a draw boy lifted the pattern chords in draw looms manually to create pattern- & this was significantly slower & time consuming compared to the Jacquard loom. There were/are other differences too but you’ll have to weave with both mechanisms to figure out a detailed comparison.
